A newsletter platform aimed at making the list a business: sending, a hosted web archive, referral programmes, paid subscriptions and an advertising marketplace in one product.
Do not build this if the advertising marketplace is why you are here. Reconsider if it is not. Two separate things are bundled. **Sending reputation** is the ordinary newsletter argument, and it applies here as everywhere: the software is a fortnight, the warmed domain is what the fee buys. **The advertising and boost marketplace** is the other half, and it has no technical replacement at all — it is a network of advertisers and other newsletters, and you either have access to it or you do not. WORK OUT WHICH YOU ARE PAYING FOR - Look at last quarter. If a meaningful share of your revenue or your growth came from the marketplace, the fee is customer acquisition and it is cheap - If you have never run an ad or a boost, you are paying a platform price for sending, and Listmonk or a small application over a bulk provider does that for a fraction IF YOU BUILD IT, THE SHAPE IS ORDINARY - One delivery row per subscriber per issue, written before sending, which makes a resume exact and a duplicate impossible - Bounces and complaints consumed from the provider: a hard bounce unsubscribes, a complaint unsubscribes permanently - SPF, DKIM and DMARC on a dedicated sending subdomain, warmed slowly — hundreds at first, doubling over weeks - One-click unsubscribe with no login, plus the List-Unsubscribe headers the large providers now effectively require - A public archive with permanent URLs, an RSS feed and generated share images - Paid subscriptions through a hosted checkout, with access derived from an active subscription rather than a stored flag THE REFERRAL PROGRAMME, WHICH IS THE ONE FEATURE WORTH COPYING - A per-subscriber referral link, rewards at thresholds, and fraud checks: same address hash, disposable domains, and a hold before a reward is granted - It is a fortnight, it works, and it is the growth mechanism that does not depend on anybody's marketplace THE ONE-LINE VERSION Sending you can build. An advertiser network you cannot — so decide which one you are actually paying for.
