SE Ranking
The value is the network, the data or the infrastructure. Keep paying.
Rank tracking and SEO reporting: watch where you sit for a list of keywords, across locations and devices, with reports for clients.
Build the rank reporting I actually need instead of SE Ranking — and understand the constraint before you start. **Position data is the product, and you cannot collect it.** Search engines block automated position checks, checking from one location gives you one location's answer, and results are personalised anyway. Anybody who tells you a scraper solves this has not run one for three months. Here is what to build instead, which is genuinely better for most sites. STACK - Node 20+ with Fastify, server-rendered HTML - SQLite through better-sqlite3, WAL mode - Caddy in front USE THE DATA YOU ARE ENTITLED TO - Search Console gives you impressions, clicks, average position and the query — **for your own site, from the search engine itself, free and accurate**. That is better than any scraped rank - Pull it daily through its API and store it. The interface only keeps sixteen months; your own table keeps it forever, and in two years that archive is the thing nobody else has THE DATA MODEL - queries: id, query, page, country, device, date, impressions, clicks, position — one row per combination per day - pages: id, url, first_seen, last_seen - annotations: id, date, note — deployments, content changes, algorithm updates. **A chart without annotations produces guesses** - competitors: tracked by content and backlinks, not by position WHAT TO REPORT - Movement by query group rather than by single keyword. One keyword moving is noise; a group moving is a signal - Pages gaining and losing impressions week over week, which is where the actionable finding actually is - Queries where you rank between eight and twenty: **the highest-return list in SEO**, because those are the pages closest to earning real traffic - Click-through rate against the expected rate for that position, which finds titles worth rewriting - New queries appearing, which tells you what a page is starting to be about CLIENT REPORTS - A monthly PDF or a link, generated from the data, with the annotations on the chart and a written summary - **Say what changed and what you did about it.** A report of numbers with no narrative is why clients stop reading them WHAT TO REFUSE TO BUILD - A rank scraper. It breaks, it gets blocked, it produces data you cannot defend, and it may breach the terms of the service you are scraping - Keyword volume estimates. Without a licensed data source these are invented, and invented numbers in a client report are worse than no numbers WHAT MATTERS MOST Use Search Console and keep it forever, with annotations. That is a better dataset than scraped positions, and it is free and legitimate.
What you lose
- Position data collected daily from many locations
- A keyword database with volumes and difficulty
- Competitor visibility without configuring anything
- White-label client reports that arrive on schedule
If you would rather not build
- Google Search Console, which is free and authoritative for your own site
- A daily API pull into your own table, which beats sixteen months of retention
- A paid tracker, if positions across locations are contractually required

28/100
Verdict no at 28: the rank data is the product and it is not collectable. The entry argues for the Search Console archive instead, which is genuinely the better answer.
