KEEP IT

The value is the network, the data or the infrastructure. Keep paying.

A social media management suite: scheduling across networks, a shared inbox for comments and messages, approval workflows and cross-network reporting for teams.

Promptfree, for everyone, and the only version there is
Do not rebuild Hootsuite. Build the scheduler for the networks with open APIs and stop there.

WHAT TO BUILD
- Node with Fastify, SQLite, one cron worker
- Adapters for Mastodon and Bluesky, whose APIs are open and stable
- A documented stub showing exactly where an X or LinkedIn adapter would go, and why it is empty

THE QUEUE
- Every scheduled post stored append-only with its target accounts and UTC send time
- A separate attempts table recording each publish attempt, the response and the error
- Exponential backoff, a dead-letter state, and a visible failed list

COMPOSING
- One composer, per-network character limits and media rules validated before queueing
- Media uploaded once and reused across networks
- A calendar view of the next 30 days and a list of what already went out

WHAT YOU ARE GIVING UP, WRITE IT IN THE README
- No unified inbox: reading comments needs the same API access you do not have
- No listening, no competitor tracking
- Analytics limited to what each network hands back for your own posts

TOKENS
- OAuth tokens encrypted at rest with a key from the environment
- A clear screen when a token expires, rather than posts silently failing

Include a README covering application registration on each network and the review process required before an API key is granted.

What you lose

  • Approved API access to networks that no longer hand it out to new applications
  • A unified inbox pulling comments and messages from every network into one queue
  • Approval workflows and audit trails that a marketing department needs to operate at all
  • Social listening across keywords and competitors
  • Analytics normalised across networks so numbers can be compared rather than collected

If you would rather not build

  • Sprout Social — paid, the other enterprise suite

Why this verdict

our own opinion · changed only by a person

31/100

Verdict no at 31: the scheduler is easy and the prompt builds it, but Hootsuite is bought for API access, a shared inbox and approvals. The first of those is granted by the networks, not written by you, and it is increasingly not granted at all.
