Outline
Replaceable in one session with an AI coding agent.
An open-source team wiki with a fast editor, collections, search and single sign-on — hosted by them, or run on your own server for nothing.
Self-host it. It is designed for that. WHY THIS IS ONE OF THE EASIER MOVES - Outline is open source and its Docker setup is well documented RUNNING IT - Docker Compose: the app, Postgres, Redis and S3-compatible storage for attachments - A reverse proxy with TLS in front WHAT TO GET RIGHT ON DAY ONE - Authentication: it needs an identity provider. Google or an OIDC provider you already run - Object storage for attachments; local disk will bite you at the first migration - Backups of Postgres and the bucket, restored once as a test MIGRATING - Outline imports Markdown directly; export from wherever you are and check internal links resolve - Keep the old wiki readable for a month rather than switching in one evening SEARCH - Postgres full-text is built in and sufficient; do not add a search cluster until it is genuinely slow Include the compose file, the OIDC configuration and the backup script.
What you lose
- A managed instance with backups, upgrades and single sign-on already configured
- A collaborative editor with real-time presence, which is not trivial to operate
- Search that stays fast as the workspace grows
If you would rather not build
- A Git repository of Markdown, if a wiki is more than you need
