ALMOST

A weekend of work, and real gaps remain.

A writing tool for social posts and threads: draft in one page, see how each part will look, schedule it, and read the results afterwards.

Promptfree, for everyone, and the only version there is
Build me a thread composer and scheduler for the networks whose API I can actually get.

STACK
- Astro with a Node adapter, SQLite, one cron worker
- Mastodon and Bluesky adapters behind one interface

THE COMPOSER
- One text area; a blank line followed by --- splits the thread into parts
- Live count per part against the target network's limit, with the over-limit part marked, not the whole draft
- Preview rendering each part as the network will show it, including link cards and truncation

DRAFTS
- Autosave every few seconds to the server, with a version history you can step back through
- A share link for feedback that is read-only and signed, no account for the reader

SCHEDULING
- Queue a whole thread as one job so a partial publish cannot happen
- Post parts in order, each replying to the previous, with a pause between them
- If part three fails, stop, keep what published, and show exactly where it stopped

ANALYTICS
- Pull your own post metrics daily and store them append-only, so the numbers outlive the network's retention window
- Chart per thread, not per part, with the parts underneath

WHAT IS NOT HERE
- X posting: document the API tier and cost rather than pretending it is free

Include a README on registering an application on each network, token storage and the cron schedule.

What you lose

  • Posting access to X, which is metered and expensive to obtain directly
  • A writing surface tuned for threads, with the split points and previews right
  • Scheduling at the times its own data says perform best
  • Analytics per post and per thread, kept beyond the network’s own retention
  • Drafts shared for comment before publishing

If you would rather not build

  • Hypefury — paid, aimed at growth automation
  • Buffer — paid, broader network coverage, weaker writing surface

Why this verdict

our own opinion · changed only by a person

61/100

Verdict kinda at 61: the composer and the ordered thread publish are a good weekend, and storing your own metrics daily is a genuine improvement on what the networks keep. The gap is X — the audience most of these threads are written for is behind a paid API.
